| The 2012 Congress will have the same aim as the one of the previous ones: i.e. to take a view of the present and future clinical applications of stem cell research, with attention to the ethical aspects of these applications. However, recent moves of this research and new biological finding draws us to include in the program the developments of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) obtained by reprogramming ordinary, differentiated cells of the adult organism, such as skin cells (fibroblasts) (including the creation of cellular models of diseases, and possible developments in the field of regenerative medicine). During the meeting, we will follow the developments in the field of umbilical cord blood stem cells, and will pay attention to new sources of stem cells - stems cells from placenta, amniotic fluid and gingival fibroblasts. Finally, we will also consider other, more fundamental aspects of this research, which condition the success of treatments with "adult" stem cells, such as: understanding of pluripotency, research on stem cell maintenance, migration, differentiation, the niche, and the paracrine effect.
